VICE PRESIDENT FOR ACADEMIC AFFAIRS: Washburn University invites applications and nominations for the position of Vice President of Academic Affairs. Reporting to the President, the Vice President for Academic Affairs is the chief academic officer of the University. Directs reports include academic deans, University library, public television, and academic program areas. The Vice President provides leadership on all aspects of the Institution's mission in areas of teaching, research, scholarship, creative work and service. Washburn University is located on a spacious and attractive campus in a residential area in the capital city of Kansas. The University is composed of six major academic units: the College of Arts and Sciences, the School of Law, the School of Business, the School of Nursing and the School of Applied Studies and Washburn Institute of Technology. The successful candidate must have an earned doctorate and demonstrate teaching and scholarly accomplishments commensurate with an academic record to warrant appointment at the rank of tenured Professor. Candidates must possess a collaborative work style, well developed organizational and communication skills, commitment to diversity and inclusion and the highest degree of integrity and professionalism. Additional requirements include:

A record of ten years of progressively responsible significant leadership experience in academic administration and institutional management.

Demonstrated commitment to the importance of liberal arts education, to professional and graduate education, and international education.

Demonstrated commitment to the mission of the University, particularly with respect to the centrality of teaching and learning.

Demonstrated ability to work effectively with students, faculty and staff as a consensus builder, as an effective team member with excellent communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills in fostering academic excellence.

Record of significant leadership in planning for and the application of technology to teaching and learning.

Demonstrated ability to represent the University effectively to external stakeholders.

Experience with and commitment to the importance of the University as a cultural and civic center for the community.

ASSISTANT PROFESSOR ANALYTICAL CHEMISTRY - CHEMISTRY DEPARTMENT: Washburn University invites applications for an analytical chemistry assistant professor tenure track position beginning August 1, 2011, pending available funds. DISTANCE EDUCATION LIBRARIAN - MABEE LIBRARY: Washburn University invites applications for a Distance Education Librarian, with start date of August 1, 2010. The University Libraries seek a creative and energetic librarian to assume a leadership role in the development and implementation of an expanding information literacy program within a team-oriented, teaching library environment. The successful candidate will teach information literacy and help coordinate curriculum-integrated information literacy instruction, including delivering and scheduling sessions, assigning instructors, developing instruction programs, and collecting and analyzing data related to library instruction. The incumbent also serves as a subject liaison, with responsibility for collection development and participates in the provision of research services to library users on-site and at a distance (some evening and/or weekend hours required). The design of online instruction, both web-based tutorials and content modules for delivery through the course management system (Angel Learning Systems), will be a strong focus as the Washburn Libraries chart their future for the 21 st Century learning environment.

Requirements:

  • An ALA-accredited MLS or equivalent degree, with a demonstrated commitment to the library as a central institution within the life of the university
  • A demonstrated ability in teaching and a strong commitment to student learning and the application of technology in the effective design and delivery of instruction
  • Familiarity with current trends, standards and technologies in information literacy
  • A strong service orientation with effective interpersonal, oral, written and online communication skills
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team in a rapidly changing and culturally diverse environment
  • The necessary vision and leadership skills to position the Library to meet future needs

Preferred:

  • A Subject Master's degree
  • Experience in reference and library instruction or teaching experience
  • Familiarity with course management systems, such as Angel Learning Systems
  • Experience with assessment of student learning
  • Proficiency in a second modern language
