The Mission of the Department of Health, Physical Education and Exercise Science is to advance the development and application of knowledge within the discipline of human movement studies from a liberal arts perspective.
The Department seeks to present a balanced physical education program by:
a. Providing fundamental knowledge in the principal areas of study in health and physical education;
b. providing an understanding of health and fitness concepts and supervising individual evaluation of each student's health and fitness status;
c. providing a wide variety of opportunities for experiences and knowledge through instruction in aquatics, sports, dance, health and fitness activities and related topics;
d. providing comprehensive professional preparation programs which meet or exceed state and national standards;
e. providing guidance and leadership through academic advisement;
f. providing an understanding of and appreciation for the value of health and physical activity with emphasis on lifetime participation;
g. providing research to enhance the knowledge base of health, physical education and exercise science;
h. providing community leadership and education services.
