The Major

 

 

 

At least 30 credit hours in Political Science to be distributed as follows: PO 106 plus nine (9) additional credit hours of lower division PO and 18 credits of upper division courses with at least one three credit upper division course in each of the four areas.
The nine credits of lower division work may be satisfied by any three of the following courses: 107, 200, 210, 211, 225, 235, 245, 255, 265. Eighteen credits of upper division work must include at least one course in each of the following areas:
I) Political Theory: 333, 334, 336
II) Comparative Government/
International Relations: 351, 353, 354, 361, 363
III) American Government and
Politics: 304, 305, 306, 308, 320, 321, 338, 339, 340, 343
IV) Public Administration: 305,
306, 308, 310, 312, 343, 346, 390, 391, 392, 393, 394, 395
Courses which satisfy credit for upper division electives only are: 300, 307, 386, (although PO 307 is a requirement for the BPA degree).
Majors are strongly encouraged to take courses in modern language, statistics, and computer science. Political Science hours in excess of 40 cannot be counted for either the major or graduation. The Department requires that at least half or 15 credit hours be completed at Washburn.
