ACCREDITATION
Kansas State Department of Education
National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
The Graduate Program is primarily designed to provide regular and special
education teachers with experiences which will directly improve their
instructional competence. The Department of Education at Washburn University
believes that it can render its greatest service in this area. While instruction
in the use of research procedures is an important part of the program,
the major emphasis is the improvement of instruction.
A second aim of the Department of Education is to provide the opportunity
to fulfill requirements for additional teaching endorsements or renewal
of certificate. The Department of Education also offers a variety of options
to enable a candidate to obtain teaching endorsements in additional subjects
and fields of concentration. Specific programs and courses of study are
available upon request.
A third major objective of the graduate program is the professional development
of educational administrators. The Department of Education at Washburn
believes that the educational administrator plays an essential role in
instructional leadership. The Department further believes that the educational
administration program should emphasize a knowledge of curriculum, finance,
and school law as well as superior management skills. We hope to nurture
educational administrators whose chief and abiding concern is the improvement
of instruction and who believe that administrative principles and procedures
exist to facilitate instruction.
