Master of Liberal Studies with a concentration in Military and Strategic Studies:

The Masters of Liberal Studies (MLS), a thirty (30) hour program at Washburn University offers courses and academic experiences which are interdisciplinary in na- ture. It offers an alternative to specialized technical and applied programs. The Military and Strategic program of the School of Applied Studies is one of the di- visions available to students in the MLS program. The Military and Strategic Studies program will offer a number of 300/500 level courses available for MLS students.
An Individualized Study Program of fifteen (15) hours will be constructed with an advisor that goes beyond their undergraduate experience. It must have a clear rationale, and it must include course work from at least two divisions. Approval must be granted by the MLS committee.
The MLS also requires twelve (12) hours from the following Core Interdisciplinary Seminars which will have a variety of sections available with their own designations depending upon subject matter presented and taught by faculty from two or more departments:
LS-500 Introduction to Graduate Research in Liberal Studies–REQUIRED
LS-401/501 Interdisciplinary Seminar in Humanities
LS-402/502 Interdisciplinary Seminar in the Social Sciences
LS-403/503 Interdisciplinary Seminar in the Natural Science

Students must take at least one seminar in each area. Each seminar will offer 3 hours credit.
Students may take LS-401/501, LS-402/502, or LS 403/503 more than once, though they will not be able to repeat a specific seminar section. Courses will be cross-listed when faculty are in different divisions.
LS 490/590 Special Topic (1-6) is offered with the consent of the MLS committee

Students are also required to complete LS-599: Capstone Experience.
