The Minor

 

 


Certificate and Minor in Military and Strategic Studies
Structure: The curriculum for both the certificate and minor consists of interrelated courses presented in a balanced mix of seminars and lectures, drawing from not only the area of Military and Strategic Studies, but also from other disciplines such as History, Political Science, Sociology and Criminal Justice. Courses are structured to emphasize active learning, the curriculum frequently employs the case-study method, complemented by extensive student readings, written and oral presentations, classroom analysis, lectures by faculty mem- bers and prominent outside authorities, and field study opportunities. These programs are designed to provide appropriate academic rigor.
The curriculum for both the certificate and the minor provides a broad education in national security strategy and national military strategy.

The Certificate in Military and Strategic Studies will:
1) Include not less than thirty (30) hours of which are not less than fifteen (15) must be upper division.
2) Students may elect to include in this certificate up to nine (9) hours of military history or international policy courses.
3) Subject to approval, up to six (6) semester hours of Military Science, Naval Science or Air Studies may be applied to this minor as lower division credit.
4) MS 100, 200, 310, 320, 340, 400,and 410 are required of all seeking a certificate in Military and Strategic Studies.

The Minor in Military and Strategic Studies will:
1) include not less than eighteen (18) hours of which not less than nine must be upper division.
2) students may elect to include in this minor up to six (6) hours of military history or international policy courses.
3) subject to approval, up to three semester hours of Military Science, Naval Science or Air Studies may be applied to this minor as lower division credit.
4) MS 100, 310, 320, and 410 are required of all seeking a minor in Military and Strategic Studies.

Administration:
The minor and the certificate is administered by the Department of Criminal Justice within the School of Applied Studies.
