The Certificate Program in Public Health Nursing is designed to prepare
the public/community health nurse with further understanding of current
public health practice. The nurse practicing in the community must have
the knowledge and understanding of population-focused public health practice
and the delivery of community based services.
The Program objectives include:
1. Use public health theory and strategies as the basis for nursing practice.
2. Apply epidemiology theory and strategies to population-focused community
and public health service.
3. Use effective organization and management practices in agency administration
in community and public health settings.
4. Become competent in health policy development by creating needed legislation.
5. Develop competence in providing services to a diverse population through
experience in an alternative setting.
6. Develop greater expertise in public health nursing during an internship
experience.
