HL 100 Stress Management (2)
This course explores the causes of stress, the effects of stress upon
the health of the individual and the cognitive and physical techniques
used to combat stress. Among other topics, attention is given to a stress
survey, means of reducing stress and the building of the immune system,
time management, test anxiety and performance enhancement. Relaxation
techniques such as progressive relaxation, autogenic training, meditation,
and visualization are practiced in class.
HL 101 Biofeedback Lab (1)
Students will learn biofeedback techniques for relaxation using hand
temperature, heart rate, EMG and EDR equipment. (two half hour sessions
per week arranged).
HL 152 Personal and Community Health (3)
The health of the individual with emphasis on personal habits, attitudes
and knowledge necessary for improving and maintaining health throughout
life.
HL 200 Emergency Medical Technicians Training (6)
Information and procedures relative to the emergency care and transportation
of the sick and injured. Course will consist of theory lectures, clinical
practice and ambulance experience with the local hospitals. Students
successfully completing this class are eligible to take the certification
test to be a licensed Emergency Medical Technician in the State of Kansas.
Kansas residents will pay tuition and fees, and testing and certification
fees. Prerequisite: 18 years old and proof of health insurance.
HL 201 Bio-feedback Lab II (1)
Students will practice biofeedback
techniques learned in HL 101 to improve relaxation skills using hand
temperature, heart rate, EMG and EDR.
HL 202 Weight Management (1)
Students will learn principles of weight management. Emphasis will be
on nutrition knowledge and attitudes and application toward individual
weight management and goals.
HL 301 Biofeedback Lab II (1)
Students will practice biofeedback
techniques learned in HL 201 to improve relaxation skills using hand
temperature, heart rate, EMG & EDR.
HL 400 Stress Management for Parents & Teachers (3)
This course covers both the conceptual and practical aspects of stress
management. Special emphasis is placed on the problems of teachers and
methods of dealing with job related stress. Relaxation techniques appropriate
for home and classroom use are practiced.
