The Major |

Students majoring in Sociology must complete a minimum of 33 semester hours of courses in the department. These hours must include SO 100, 101, 360, 362, and AN 112. In addition one course must be selected from each of the following groups: SO 207 or 209; 305 or 309; 304 or 306 or 315 or 318 or 377. At least 18 of the required total hours must be upper division Sociology courses. Students must receive a grade of C or better in each course applied to the major. Department honors are awarded to majors who attain: (1) a 3.5 GPA in all course work in the major; (2) a 3.5 GPA in all upper-division Sociology course work, including the two capstone courses (SO 360, 362); (3) a research project within one of the capstone courses, with a grade of "A"; and, (4) a 3.2 GPA in all university course work. Majors are strongly encouraged to take courses in statistics and computer science; and to complete a minor. |
