Certificate and Minor in Military and Strategic Studies

Structure: The curriculum for both the certificate and minor consists of interrelated courses presented in a balanced mix of seminars and lectures, drawing from not only the area of Military and Strategic Studies, but also from other disciplines such as History, Political Science, Sociology and Criminal Justice. Courses are structured to emphasize active learning, the curriculum frequently employs the case-study method, complemented by extensive student readings, written and oral presentations, classroom analysis, lectures by faculty members and prominent outside authorities, and field study opportunities. These programs are designed to provide appropriate academic rigor.

The curriculum for both the certificate and the minor provides a broad education in national security policy and national military strategy.

The Minor in Military and Strategic Studies:

1) requires 18 hours of which not less than 9 must be upper division.
2) students may elect to include up to 6 hours of military history or international policy courses.
3) subject to approval, 3 semester hours of Military Science, Naval Science or Aerospace Studies may be applied to minor as lower division credit. (See Military Science Section)

The Certificate in Military and Strategic Studies:
1) requires 30 hours of which 15 must be upper division,
2) students may take up to 9 hours of military history or international policy courses,
3) subject to approval, up to 6 hours Military Science, Naval Science or Aerospace Studies may be applied as lower division credit. (See Military Science Section)
