Courses of study in the Department of Physics and Astronomy are planned primarily to provide the technical training necessary for the student to work effectively in the fields of industrial research, or teaching, or to continue study at a higher professional level. However, certain courses offer the opportunity for the general student to gain a non-technical knowledge of physics and astronomy to help understand both the contributions and problems of technology in modern society. Students seeking certification to teach must also be formally admitted
to the University’s Professional Teacher Education Programs. For
admission requirements, see EDUCATION.
