Questions concerning the degrees or eligibility for enrollment should
be addressed to the chairperson of the department.
Mission: The Department of Criminal Justice offers programs
designed to meet the needs of students preparing for careers in corrections,
law enforcement and security administration. For individuals already employed
in the criminal justice field, the program offers a means to enhance opportunities
for career advancement. Courses are presented in both classroom and web-based
formats and are intended to produce knowledge students who possess analytical
and technical skills to compete in today’s criminal justice job
market.
Student Learning Outcomes
Criminal Justice students at Washburn University, upon graduation, are
expected to have:
- acquired knowledge of the nature of crime and justice in the United
States and other countries;
- acquired an advanced knowledge of the police, courts, and corrections
systems in America;
- mastered the conceptual and theoretical frameworks that form the
study of criminal justice;
- acquired oral and written communication skills;
- integrated academic learning with field-based education by completing
an internship; and
- evaluated criminal justice research critically and systematically.
