Washburn University is committed to working with transfer students during their transition from a community college or another four-year university. Admissions counselors are available for questions about the admission process, questions about transferring credits, and referrals to departmental advisors.
We have provided the transfer guide to help you determine how your credits will transfer to Washburn University. Understand that this transfer guide is not comprehensive; it lists courses that are frequently transferred to Washburn University, and courses not included in the guide might still transfer to Washburn. If you cannot find your course, e-mail us and request that it be evaluated. Include your school’s name and address and the course prefix and number (e.g. MATH 101) in your request.
Department chairs determine how major courses will transfer. You may appeal decisions about the transferability of major courses through the appropriate department chair. Be prepared to provide supporting documents, such as course syllabi, course descriptions, or examples of your work. The department chair’s decision is final.
These students are eligible for Reverse Transfer, which allows for the attainment of any associate degree for which one is eligible along the way to additional certificates and degrees. If you believe you may meet the requirements to qualify for reverse transfer, contact the Registrar’s Office at email@example.com. Students who then complete the coursework for a given associate degree will be eligible to receive that degree, administered automatically by correspondence between the new institution and the university, community college or technical college the student attended. Students with a completed technical certificate from 16 to 60 hours approved by the Kansas Board of Regents from a college accredited by the Higher Learning Commission may transfer up to 48 credit hours of earned technical certificate course credit to apply to degrees at Washburn University. Courses completed as a component of an earned Associate’s degree beyond the technical program certificate requirements will be evaluated by the General Education Committee (general education) or the relevant department (core requirements) and, based on that evaluation, may transfer to partially fulfill the core or general education requirements for Washburn programs.

For students requiring General Education Commitee approval for a course transfer either because it was completed at a technical college or because it was not considered part of the sending institution’s general education and you believe the course meets the spirit and intent of Washburn’s general education criteria, please complete the General Education Transfer Course Petition with your academic advisor and submit the form to the Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs. Decisions are usually made 1-2 weeks after all required information is received. You can appeal decisions on the transferability of general education courses through the General Education Committee, and the committee’s decisions can be appealed to the Vice President of Academic Affairs, whose decision will be final.
A final credit evaluation will be completed once you have applied and all your official transcripts have been received. You can view your Washburn academic record on My Washburn when the evaluation is complete.
