Activities
The
Big Switch
Annually,
SAAB sponsors a contest called the Big Switch. The student that
wins has the opportunity to "switch" roles with a prominent
alumna/alumnus in the Topeka community, while the alumna/alumnus
becomes a student for the day. Over the years, students have switched
places with the Kansas Secretary of State, the Mayor of Topeka and
the President of Washburn University. This provides members with
networking opportunities and interaction with alumni.
Traditions
The newest event sponsored by SAAB is Traditions.
In order to keep our Washburn traditions alive, members of SAAB
have visited with Washburn alumni and compiled a list of traditions
that have carried on through the years. In conjunction with freshman
orientation, SAAB provides a Traditions program to all incoming
freshman about the history of Washburn and University traditions.
In addition, they teach students the fight song and alma mater.
Mentoring
Members
of SAAB may participate in a mentoring program. Those members who
choose to participate are paired with a Washburn alumna and alumnus
in the Topeka area who works in the student's chosen area of study.
Meet and Greet Alumni
One of the purposes of SAAB is to serve and
assist the Washburn Alumni Association. SAAB is frequently called
upon to serve as hosts and hostesses for alumni events and activities.
SAAB also hosts its own alumni events.
