Jessalyn Nash, Executive Director of Restorative
Resources: Partners in Community Justice in
Sebastopol, California, wrote a paper entitled, "Victim
Screening Assessment for Restorative Conference
Participation" as a requirement for the Professional
Certificate in Victim Assistance: Critical Analysis
issued by the JCVVS.
Having facilitated
many
restorative justice processes since 2000, Ms. Nash
recognized that lack of understanding by the
restorative justice facilitator about victim needs and
motivations may cause secondary trauma. In the
paper she introduces a Victim Screening Assessment
as a decision making tool for the practitioner as well
as a reassessment form for follow-up. Her paper and
the instruments she developed were reviewed and
critiqued by several members of the JCVVS Executive
Committee.
Ms. Nash has been selected to
present
this topic at the International Symposium on
Victimology on August 22nd from 2-3:30 pm under
the topic of 'Victims and Services' in Florida.
