JCVVS Newsletter
December 2006
Message from the Executive
Director The holiday season tends to be a
time of reflection,
and in reflecting upon this past year I have had the
opportunity to interact with an
incredible array of individuals from around the world
working
in a variety of settings. It has been a privilege to
associate with such highly skilled and committed
professionals.
The JCVVS as an organization
will undertake a formal process of reflection in the
new year. The Executive Committee will meet early
January to review our accomplishments and to
develop strategies for our future development. I
invite anyone who is interested in the JCVVS to
contact me should you wish to offer any feedback
about our work and future directions.
Here is
wishing you a joyous holiday season and a new year
filled with peace and happiness.

CSU-Fresno has been working toward a Joint
Doctorate in Forensic and Behavioral Sciences with
an Option in Victimology for the past several years.
The proposed program was recently reviewed by the
Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC)
and by the Coordinating committee on Graduate
Affairs (CCGA) of the University of California. While
there is one more review to be done by the Joint
Doctorate Commission, these were the two major
reviews after many years of proposals and revisions
by the Criminology Department of California State
University, Fresno and the University of California,
Davis.
The CCGA site visit will occur in
December and the WASC site visit will be scheduled
early next year. This unique doctoral program will
focus on forensic science, forensic behavioral
science, and victimology with an emphasis on
research and policy. The core courses require these
future researchers and administrators to look at the
major issues in their respective fields from a broad
societal perspective. The projected initiation date
for the Joint Doctorate is fall 2008.
