Radio Interview: "The Victim's Movement and the Black Community" |
Dr. Steve Walker from California State University-
Fresno, was featured in an interview with Tony Cox
of National Public Radio for the program News and
Notes on December 21, 2006. As one of three
experts interviewed, Dr. Walker provided the
historical context of victimology/victim services, an
area in which he has written and presented
extensively.

Connecticut Location for Critical Analysis of Victim Assistance Course |
The Connecticut Office for Victim Services and the
University of New Haven is again hosting the course
Critical Analysis of Victim Assistance
scheduled for
May 9-11 at the Judicial Learning Center at East
Hartford, Connecticut. The Office for Victim Services
hosted the Critical Analysis of Victim Assistance
course in October 2002 and again in September
2005. Morita Therapy was hosted in May
2006.
Linda Cimino, Director for the
Connecticut Office of Victim Services states, "The
Office of Victim Services is pleased to again partner
with JCVVS. The collaboration has proven very
veneficial to the victim assistance community as we
provide services to Connecticut's crime victims. We
look forward to this and other training events with
JCVVS."
This public offering course is not
restricted to practitioners working in Connecticut.
The course typically attracts professionals
nationwide and, occasionally, from other countries.

Executive Committee Retreat |
The Joint Center on Violence and Victim Studies
Executive Committee met
on January 9-10, 2007 at Washburn University. This
retreat provided an opportunity for critical review of
all aspects of the JCVVS and to identify strategies
for continued work in addressing violence and
victimization.

American Symposium on Victimology Presentations |
Time is running out to submit a proposal for a
presentation, panel discussion, or poster session for
the American Symposium on Victimology scheduled
April 11-13 in Baltimore.
The plenary
speakers for
this year's Symposium are Patty Wetterling, child
advocate and parent of Jacob Wetterling, and
Howard Zehr, Co-director of the Center for Justice
and Peacebuilding of Eastern Mennonite Univeristy.
