Critical Analysis of Victim Assistance |
The University of New Haven and the Connecticut
Office of Victim Assistance will host the Critical
Analysis of Victim Assistance course scheduled
May
9-11 in Hartford, Connecticut. This professional
development course has received national acclaim for
its challenging content and instruction. "The training
truly challenged my personal beliefs and attitudes"
stated Sean Brazzale, Wyoming Division of Victim
Services. Gerrie O'Neil-Wild from Connecticut
Coalition Against Domestic Violence offered the
testimony "The program has energized me to
continue to look at and address policies and
practices that may further revictimize the individuals
and families we serve or should be serving." For

JCVVS Represented at Restorative Justice Conference |
Executive Committee members Bernadette Muscat,
California State University-Fresno, and Mario
Gaboury, University of New Haven, both presented at
the 4th Annual Restorative Justice Conference held
October 25-26 at Fresno Pacific College. Dr.
Muscat's presentation, The Role of Restorative
Justice for Victims of Family Violence, focused on
the essential components for a restorative justice
program to be used in family violence cases. Dr.
Gaboury's presentation, A Connecticut Advocate
in the Court of Restorative Justice, focused on
the important issues restorative justice practitioners
should know about the victims' perspective and
victim assistance practitioners.

Victimization of Female Offenders |
Executive Committee member Bernadette Muscat,
California State University-Fresno, is working on a
grant funded through the California Department of
Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) to examine the
victimization patterns of female inmates. Dr. Muscat
is conducting a records review of all violent female
offenders who are entering the system. The
research will be conducted in three correctional
institutions in California. The intent of this research
is to determine who female inmates are victimizing,
the means used to victimize others, and the extent
of violence used during these offenses.

American Symposium on Victimology |
Dr. Howard Zehr and Patty Wetterling will be the
plenary speakers for the 5th American Symposium on
Victimology scheduled for April 11-13, 2007 in
Baltimore, Maryland. For more information about the
