The University of New Haven has named Dr. Mario
Gaboury, Professor of Criminal Justice, to the initial
Oskar Schindler Humanities Foundation Endowed
Professorship. Dr. Gaboury currently serves as
department chair of the Department of Criminal
Justice. He earned a J.D. from Georgetown University
Law Center in 1987, a Ph.D. from Pennsylvania State
University in 1983, a Master of Arts from the University
of Maryland, and his Bachelor of Arts degree from the
University of Connecticut. Dr. Gaboury also directs the
university's Crime Victim Study Center and is on the
executive committee of the JCVVS.
Dr.
Gaboury's research interests are focused on
victimology and improving offender behavior through
education and empathy building. He intends to extend
his international work combating human trafficking,
abuse of power, and human rights violations and
plans to provide opportunities for students to
participate in his research efforts. He will be
developing a special topics course for Fall 2007 and
will be working each semester and through each
summer of this three-year professorship overseeing
independent study projects with undergraduate and
graduate students.
The Oskar Schindler
Humanities Endowed Professorship at UNH was
established through a major gift in honor of the
inauguration of Dr. Steven H. Kaplan as the sixth
president of the University of New Haven. Dr. Gaboury
was selected in a competitive process from among a
pool of six applicants for the role.
