Grand Homecoming 2015 is October 18 to 25, 2015. Get ready to celebrate 150 years of Washburn University with us.

We especially look forward to seeing you back on campus for several special events on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 23 and 24. Get the details of each below and be sure to check the other pages on this site for information about gatherings specific to the departments, clubs and organizations that made the best difference for you.

HOMECOMING WEEKEND! -- Friday, Oct. 23

Items marked with * are intended for the entire Washburn community. Other events are intended for current Washburn students.

Top Hats

  • Top hats are on display from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. today in the Memorial Union, main level.
  • The Top Hat Auction benefits United Way of Greater Topeka.
  • Vote for your favorite by putting change in its jar, or bid on the hat.
  • A bid of $50 is the "buy it now" price and will allow you to keep the hat after Homecoming concludes.

Royalty Voting

  • Homecoming royalty voting is open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. today in the Memorial Union or at my.washburn.edu.
  • Voting is open to students only.

*Ichabod Washburn statue dedication -- Downtown Topeka

  • The statue of Ichabod Washburn, to be installed along Kansas Avenue, will be dedicated at approximately 11:30 a.m.
  • Additional details soon.

*Departmental Open Houses

  • Noon to 4 p.m., various locations around campus.
  • There is no cost and no RSVP is required to attend a departmental open house.
  • Visit the Affinity Groups page and search for your department for more details.

*Welcome Center at Morgan Hall Open House

  • 2-3:30 p.m. at Morgan Hall
  • There is no cost and no RSVP is required to attend

*Ichabod Plaza Dedication

  • 3:30-4 p.m. on the Ichabod Plaza, in front of Morgan Hall and the Welcome Center.

*Washburn After Hours & Top Hat Auction

  • 4-7 p.m. at Bradbury Thompson Alumni Center.
  • There is no cost to Alumni Association members; $5 per person for non-members.
  • Mix and mingle at this annual event. This will be the last chance to bid on top hats. Cakes from the WU Chef competition also will be on display.

*Bonfire

  • 8-8:30 p.m. near KTWU.
  • Follow the crowd from After Hours to this exciting bonfire pep rally.

*Washburn Volleyball

  • Cheer on your Ichabods as they host the Pittsburg State Gorillas at 7 p.m. at Lee Arena.
  • Tickets available in advance or at the ticket window. (Current students are admitted free with iCard; non-Washburn students and seniors $3; adults $5.)

HOMECOMING DAY! -- Saturday, Oct. 24

Pancake Feed

  • 7:30-10 a.m. at the Bradbury Thompson Alumni Center
  • $5 per person, pay at the event.
  • There is no need to RSVP in advance for this event.

Grand Parade

  • Line-up begins at 7:30 a.m. in the Washburn Village parking lot.
  • The parade begins at 10 a.m.
  • Students: Registration of parade entries will be due in September. Alumni and friends: If you want to participate in the parade, as an entry or volunteer, contact the Leadership Institute at 785.670.2000.

Parade Watch Party

  • Beginning at 9:30 a.m., watch the parade with the Washburn University Foundation staff from the lawn at 1729 S.W. MacVicar.
  • No RSVP is required for the Watch Party and there is no cost. Questions? Contact 785.670.1816.

After the Parade

  • Bring your little ones to KTWU to have their picture taken with the PBS Kids characters they saw in the parade. All events will be outside the studio on Jewell Avenue.More details about this fun event for children coming soon.

Tailgating

      • The Grand Tailgate Party begins at 11 a.m. on the lawn.
      • There is a cost for this event and details, including ticket price and how to order, will be provided soon. No RSVP required.

Ichabod Football

      • Watch your Ichabods take on the University of Central Oklahoma at 2 p.m. at Yager Stadium at Moore Bowl.
      • Students, your iCard is your ticket.
      • Others can purchase tickets at the gate or online.
      • Homecoming royalty will be crowned at halftime.

Bow Tie Bash

      • Immediately following the football game, at approximately 5:30 p.m. join the grand finale of the sesquicentennial and keep the celebration of Washburn going at the Bow Tie Bash. Football attire is expected.
      • Ticket purchase information will be available soon for this progressive party. RSVPs will be required.
        • Enjoy bands, food and beverages at two campus locations.

*Yell Like Hell

  • 7-9 p.m. inside Lee Arena.
  • Admission is free for everyone and no RSVP is required.
  • Washburn Cheer, Dancing Blues and Marching Blues will perform, as will the Topeka High Drum Line.
  • Groups will be judged in one of three categories
    • University organization
    • Fraternity or Sorority
    • Athletic Teams
  • Participants: Submit a roster of all group participants to the Office of Student Activities and Greek Life by noon today. All participants must be current Washburn students. Registration for this event will be due in September.

  • Chapter house decorations must be completed and ready for judging by 4 p.m.
  • Judging begins at 4 p.m.
  • Registration for this event will be due in September.

*Open Mic Night

  • 7-9 p.m. at Mabee Library.
  • Participants: You must be ready at 6:45 p.m. Acts may include only one or two people and each will have six minutes. Registration for this event will be due in September. Prizes are awarded only to current Washburn students.
  • Spectators: There is no cost to attend and no RSVP required.

Office Decorations

  • Office decorations must be ready for judging by 3:30 p.m.
  • Registration for this event will be due in September.

Ichabod Race

  • Meet in the lower level of the Memorial Union and be ready to start the race at 7 p.m.
  • The Ichabod Race is composed of several teams of three to five members. (Registration for this event will be due in September.)
  • Each team must use provided clues to guide them to specific locations around campus.
  • Once there, at least two team members must pose while the third takes a picture as proof of arrival.

Monday, Oct. 19

Top Hats

  • Completed top hats are due at noon to the Office of Student Activities and Greek Life.
  • Judging begins at 5 p.m. today in the Memorial Union.
  • Registration for this event will be due at noon on October 9.

  • The ball begins at 7 p.m. in the Washburn Room, main level, Memorial Union.
  • The ball is for current Washburn students and their guests only.
  • Royalty candidates will be announced.

  • Voting is open to students only.

Sunday, Oct. 18

Bods on Bikes on the Avenue

  • Washburn Student Government Association and Topeka Metro Bikes present a bike ride to historic Downtown Topeka to see the Bods on the Avenue window displays.

Saturday, Oct. 17

Bods on the Avenue

  • Bods on the Avenue store-front decorating on Kansas Avenue finishes today.
  • Coordinate with your community business partner to arrange window decorating times.
