blank The sleigh
--Mabel & Jack remember

M abel Martin tells of one big snowfall where the drifts covered the fences. She remembered that Cleve hitched up the sleigh and took off cross-country to visit the neighbors, going as the crow flies rather than sticking to what had been roads--then blanketed in snow as deep as that in the fields.

Jack Martin remembers riding in the sleigh. It was put into service for winter community outings. He especially remembers sledding parties, where the neighborhood children would sled down the steep hill to the north of the Martin farmhouse. The sleigh would carry them and their sleds back up the hill so that they could race downward again.
