    The celebration was hosted by her four children and their spouses; Don and Joan Martin, Burlingame; Ray and Sue Hallauer, Holton; Don and Peggy Long, Topeka; and Mike and Debbie Martin, Meriden; her 8 grandchildren and 5 great- grandchildren.
    Sue, Peggy, Susan and Dana managed the reception and took a “crash-course” in cake decorating to honor Zora with the cake decorating skills. Zora had long helped others celebrate special occassions with her specially-decorated cakes!

in Winchester, KS. She was
a homemaker
and raised her four
children with her husband,
Harry A. Martin, in the
Meriden community.
She has lived the last several years in the Holton community.

For those who couldn't attend, Phyllis had the most fun at Mom's 90th birthday party today. She managed to lock herself in the bathroom of the Luthern Church in Holton. Ray Hallauer and his brother Eric took the bathroom handle apart from the out side but still could not get the door open, so they finally slid a knife under the door and while talking to Phyllis on cell phones instructed her how to take the door handle apart from the inside, which you can see from the picture was a success!!!!!!

Zora's great-granddaughter, Gracelyn, daughter of Brian and Dana Hallauer, Topeka, is entertained by Zora's youngest granddaughter, Olivia, daughter of Mike and Debbie Martin, Meriden. Family was particularly pleased to see Connie Lay at her aunt's reception. Connie attended with her husband, Bill, her brother, Ron, his wife, Violet, and sisters, Rosemary and Darlene. Darlene's husband, Harvey, also attended. Connie has been undergoing medical treatment. It was good to see her out at this event! Ryan and Kyle, aged 9 and 7, sons of Jennifer and Lee Weide, stand near their Great-grandma Zora. The Weide family came down from their home in Nebraska for the celebration.

Zora was showered with birthday cards and guests signed a framed and matted photo of Zora which she can hang in her home as a reminder of this special day.


Zora died on Friday, Dec. 3, 2004, after a short illness. Her obituary appeared the next day in the Topeka Capital-Journal:

Zora C. Garner Martin, 90, of Holton, passed away Friday, December 03, 2004.
   She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry A. Martin, and her grandson, Wm. “Jeff” Martin.
   She is survived by her sister, Irene Sanders of Lawrence, children, Donald and Joan Martin of Burlingame, Ray and Marilyn Sue Hallauer of Holton, Donald and Peggy Long of Topeka, Michael and Debbie Martin of Meriden, 8 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
Services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will be in Stewart Cemetery east of Hoyt. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Viewing will be for family only.
   In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Zora Martin Memorial Fund c/o Mercer Funeral Home, Box 270, Holton, KS 66436.
