Mission

Washburn University and the Brown Foundation for Educational Equity, Excellence, and Research have created the Washburn Center for Diversity Studies. The Center, working out of the College of Arts and Sciences, pursues the shared values of the Brown Foundation and the university.

The Center Fellows share a commitment to educational excellence, to recognizing diversity in an open society, to supporting educational equality, to improved relations among diverse groups, and to our shared heritage in Topeka and Shawnee County.

Goals and objectives

Goal 1. Building community: on the Washburn campus, in the city of Topeka,
             in the state and beyond.
Goal 2. Increasing capacity for understanding and cooperation.
Goal 3. Combating ignorance and intolerance.
Goal 4. Developing networks of intellectual exchange.

Students interested in diversity issues are encouraged to enroll in courses which contain a significant component dealing with diversity.
