What is Engineering?

Courses offered at Washburn University that are required by, and transfer to, most four-year engineering institutions include:

  • Fundamentals of Chemistry I & II
  • General Physics I & II
  • Calculus and Analytic Geometry I, II & III
  • Differential Equations
  • Mathematical Statistics I & II
  • Engineering Mechanics – Statics
  • Engineering Mechanics – Dynamics
  • Engineering Mechanics of Materials
  • Thermodynamics
  • Freshman Composition
  • Advanced Composition
  • Public Speaking
  • Business and Technical Writing
  • Computer Programming
  • Humanities and Social Science Electives
Specific courses and sequence should be determined with the assistance of faculty advisors and the Pre-Engineering Program Director. A suggested course sequence has been developed for students having taken sufficient mathematics in high school. If a student requires additional mathematics before taking calculus, they will need to work with faculty advisors to sequence their courses.
