Eric McHenry joined the Washburn faculty as an assistant professor in the fall of 2009. He holds a B.A. from Beloit College and an M.A. from Boston University. He is the author of a book of poems, Potscrubber Lullabies (Waywiser Press, 2006), which won the Kate Tufts Discovery Award and was a finalist for the Washington State Book Award. His poems have appeared in such journals as The New Republic, Harvard Review, Orion, Northwest Review and Common Knowledge, and have been reprinted in the Guardian (U.K.), Poetry Daily and the Swallow Anthology of New American Poets (Ohio University Press, 2009). He spent 15 years as a professional journalist, most recently as editor of Columns, the alumni magazine of the University of Washington. His articles and reviews have appeared in the New York Times Book Review, the Boston Globe, Slate, the San Francisco Chronicle and the Kansas City Star. From 1994-96 he was a features writer for the Topeka Capital-Journal. He is a native Topekan, and a fifth-generation graduate of Topeka High School.
