Mary Sheldon

Associate Professor Mary Sheldon received her B.A. and M.A. from Gannon College and her Ph.D. from Purdue University. She came to Washburn in 1988. Her standard teaching assignments at Washburn University include world literature and business writing courses. While developing world literature courses, Dr. Sheldon received grants to study Japanese culture at Tokei University in Hawaii and Chinese culture at the East-West Center at the University of Hawaii. Her degrees in history, theology, and English have helped her develop the broad background she needs to teach world literature, as has travel in Europe, Asia, and Central America. Dr. Sheldon presents a yearly paper on some aspect of Buddhism in Asian literature at the Asian Studies Development Program conference. Having studied business writing at Purdue University, Dr. Sheldon also has worked as a consultant for state and federal agencies and private institutions in Kansas. As an active member of the Association for Business Communications, she keeps up-to-date with current trends and procedures in business communications.
