Sarah Smarsh

Assistant professor Sarah Smarsh holds an MFA in nonfiction writing from Columbia University, as well a B.S. in journalism and a B.A. in English from the University of Kansas. She has written for the Huffington Post, Kansas City's The Pitch, Lawrence.com and newspapers across the Midwest, and has won awards from the Society of Professional Journalists and the Kansas Press Association. Smarsh has taught creative nonfiction, including memoir, profile-writing and narrative journalism, at Columbia University, Ottawa University and Lawrence Arts Center. She teaches nonfiction in Washburn's creative writing program and serves as the faculty advisor for inscape, the literary journal of Washburn University.
