Stella Evertson

Abbie McCellan interviewed Stella Evertson on April 24, 2006. Mrs. Evertson was born in the same village in Zhejian Province where her parents and grapnparents had been born. She was born August 16, 1947. Her father and uncle sold antiques and moved their business to Hong Kong shortly after she was born and before Communist victory in mainland China. Mrs. Evertson and her mother and brother moved to Hong Kong in 1958. While working at the Hong Kong Hilton, she met her future husband who was serving in the U. S. Navy. He returned to the United States , was discharged, and returned to Hong Kong in 1968 to ask Stella to marry him. They came to the U.S. after they were married, arriving in San Diego and then driving to Topeka. She has lived and worked in Topeka ever since, where she now operates her own alterations business. She and her husband have two daughters and one grandson.
