We are excited that you are considering our program.   We believe a choice to attend Washburn University and study athletic training will be a great decision.   We are committed to recruiting and enrolling quality students and to providing up-to-date educational opportunities.   We are here to help you succeed.

The Washburn University Athletic Training Educational Program (ATEP) is designed to provide students with theory and practice in the Athletic Training profession.  It prepares them to enter a variety of employment settings related to athletic training and to render care to a wide spectrum of individuals engaged in physical activity.  The ATEP provides quality instruction and clinical education in Athletic Training and supports the discipline of sports medicine through education, scholarly activity and service in the areas of prevention, clinical evaluation and diagnosis, immediate care, treatment, rehabilitation and reconditioning of injury, organization, administration and professional responsibility. The ATEP is CAATE accredited, meaning students are eligible for the BOC exam upon graduation.  Additionally, the ATEP can prepare students for graduate level study in a variety of health related fields including physical therapy and physician assistant programs.

Clinical experiences completed during the program allow students opportunities to integrate the skills they learn in the classroom into real-life settings. The Washburn ATEP offers some outstanding clinical sites and experiences for students. Most are completed in the University Athletic Training Room under the supervision of Staff Athletic Trainers involved with NCAA Division II men's and women's athletics.   The University's Athletic Training facilities are state of the art including a variety of training and rehabilitation equipment including a Hydroworx rehabilitation pool.   Off campus clinical sites include high schools, rehabilitation centers, physician clinics, and sports performance centers.
