Chunguang Li

Faculty Adjunct of Chinese

I began to teach the Beginning Chinese class in 2003.  Since then, I have met so many students who love Chinese culture and language and eager to learn about China.  I enjoy working with them very much and some of them have become my good friends.

I received my undergraduate education in musicology at the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing. Then I spent two year studying at the National Conservatory of Music and the Institute of Korean Traditional Music, Pyongyang, North Korea. From 1965-1980, I taught musicology at the Central Conservatory of Music before being appointed as associate executive editor-in-chief of the 'Journal of Central Conservatory of Music', 1981-1986. Since 1986 I have been living in the States in various capacities, first as visiting scholar at Florida State University and Columbia University, then as consultant to Colombia University's Center for US-China Art Exchanges and as editor-in-chief for the China Daily News (New York).

I have written, translated, and edited numerous articles on music, art, literature, and history for a wide range of publications both in China and the US, such as 'Journal of Music Research', 'Journal of Central
Conservatory of Music', 'The New Observer', 'Reading', 'The People's Daily', 'China Daily News' and 'The World Daily News', just to name a few.
