She obtained her Ph.D. at the University of Kansas. Her areas of research are the French Enlightenment (Marquis de Sade, 18th-century novel, poetry, and literary theory), 20th-century criticism on the Enlightenment, and interdisciplinary studies (literature, art, and architecture).
