Application Deadlines

  • Summer and fall semester admission applications must be received by March 1
  • Spring semester applications must be received by October 1

Note: Our former deadlines for application were later in the semester. During this year of transition we will continue to accept applications according to the previous schedule: by November 15th for the spring semester and April 15th for summer and fall (2010).

Applicants should submit the following materials

  • An application form for the MLS program.
    (Submit this online or send a hard copy to the address below).
  • Students not currently enrolled at Washburn must apply.
    Complete an application for admission to the University as well as the MLS application.
    (Submit this online or send a hard copy to the address below).
  • A three-to-five-page essay.
    This should define what you think a liberal education degree means at the graduate level and how the general aims of liberal education are relevant to the specific goals you have in pursuing the MLS degree. The second part of the essay should be as concrete as possible, explaining how this degree will help you fulfill your personal and career goals.
  • Three letters of recommendation.
    These can be from your undergraduate school, current workplace and/or from anyone who can speak to your ability to do graduate-level work. They should be confidential recommendations sent directly to the address below.
  • Transcripts of all previous university work (including any undergraduate work you’ve completed at Washburn).

Applications will be submitted to the MLS committee for consideration; in some cases the committee may request that you come in for an interview. Expect to receive a response to your application no later than three weeks after the deadline for application.
