Home page for Dr. Kevin E. Charlwood

I began teaching at Washburn University in August of 1997; prior to that I taught at Saint Leo College in Florida for two years. I completed my Ph.D. at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in August of 1994 under the direction of Ian Musson in the area of multiparameter quantum groups. My main research interests now are in the teaching and learning of calculus and abstract algebra.

I have some links below to several worksheets for use with Maple in a modern algebra course (Washburn's MA 354) that are either under further construction or have been used in class. Please send me e-mail at the address listed below if you have any questions or comments.

From June 1995 - June 2004, I was the Managing Editor for the Concerns of Young Mathematicians (Co YM) Newsletter, a monthly electronic publication containing articles of interest to mathematicians at the start of their careers. Our homepage is located at http://www.youngmath.net and you will find information on subscribing to our Newsletter there; users may sign up for an account, and receive digests of the postings to the site.

Links to Modern Algebra worksheets:

1. Orders of permutations in a Symmetric Group
2. Groups of Complex Numbers
3. Special Matrix Groups
