Orchestra
The Washburn University Orchestra is dedicated to the quality performance of the standard orchestral repertoire and to the professional and artistic growth of its members. Participants are selected every year by auditions; a significant number of those chosen will have majors in disciplines other than music. The Washburn University Orchestra has an extensive performance schedule on and off campus, annually presenting at least four concerts of the symphonic literature, as well as other venues such as the Solo Aria & Concerto Competition concert, new music readings and joint collaborations with the Washburn University Choir Department.
The Washburn University Orchestra is currently under the direction of Norman Armando Gamboa, Director of Orchestral Studies at Washburn University. Mr. Gamboa belongs to the new generation of Latin American orchestra conductors, he has appeared numerous times as music director and guest conductor in the United States, as well as in Central and South America.
String Orchestra
The String Ensemble at Washburn University performs a wide variety of literature for strings alone. It performs often both on and off-campus. It is conducted by Norman Armando Gamboa. Membership is through audition.
