Dr. Xiao-Li Ding, a native of Beijing, China, is currently Assistant Professor of Music, has been at Washburn University since 1992. She received her undergraduate degree from the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing. Before coming to America, she taught at the Central Conservatory and was a prize winner in the National Piano Competition in China. Ding holds a Master of Music degree from the University of Michigan where she studied with Theodore Lettvin and a doctoral degree in piano performance from Boston University where she studied with Anthony di Bonaventura. Ding has had Piano Pedagogy study at the New England Conservatory of Music and Columbia University Teachers College. She has won the Ann & Aaron Richmond Piano Competition, the Piano Honors Competition, and received the Dean's Scholar Award for four years at Boston University. Prior to coming to Washburn, she taught at the Boston Conservatory of Music. In the New England area she performed many solo recitals and with various contemporary music organizations and ensembles. In the summer of 1994 Ding toured her native China and other areas of the Far East. In the summer of 1995 she will premiere a solo piano work written for her in Berlin.
