Orchestral Excerpts for Flute Ensemble
Little Piper, www.little-piper.com
"KCFA member Rebecca Meador (Assistant Professor of Flute at Washburn
University) had a Fabulous idea in arranging several important
orchestral excerpts for flute choir. This set of ten arrangements, for
six flutes with alto flute optional, allows students to hear the context
of the flute part to satisfy the observation that "it is not enough to
know only the flute part of a score." Meador has included notes and
suggestions for different ways to use these arrangements, and they are
all helpful. This set of arrangements is an especially great
pedagogical tool for studio class."
Dr. Rebecca Dunnell, Assistant
Professor of Flute, Northwest Missouri State University, Kansas City
Flute Association Newsletter, Fall/Winter 2006
"What a great idea: giving the flutists in your studio a chance to
experience in a chamber music setting some of the most famous highlights
of the orchestral repertoire for flute. Although they are not intended
for public performance, these arrangements of selected excerpts of
orchestra solo flute solos will allow your students to learn and analyze
these difficult passages along with the harmonies and rhythms and
counter melodies that accompany them. The eighteen flute solos extracted
here represent some of the most important excerpts typically called for
in orchestra auditions and include works by Beethoven, Brahms, Debussy,
Dvorak, Mendelssohn, Rossini, and Smetana. In addition to the solo line,
the flute ensemble accompaniments employ five C flutes along with an
optional G alto flute part. A reduced score (which includes indications
of the original instrumentation) and separate flute parts are included.
This collection will find excellent use in flute ensemble and studio
classes and supplement the many complete orchestral flute parts
published by Little Piper."
Dr. Jerrold Pritchard - Professor
Emeritus, California State University - San Bernardino, The Flute
Network, November 2006
