James Rivers, pianist-in residence, is a graduate of Juilliard and the University of North Texas, joined the Washburn staff in 1968. A first-prize winner of two national competitions, he made his orchestral debut at age 18 as soloist with the Dallas Symphony. Since his recital debut at 25 in New York's Town Hall, he has concertized in North America and Europe and is a published composer (ASCAP) and a recording artist. His students have won prizes in regional, national, and international competitions.
