Mission Statement
The Department of Physics and Astronomy is located in the College of Arts and Sciences and offers the physics major for Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Arts degrees.
The department is committed to providing a comprehensive foundation in physics, so as to prepare majors for a lifetime of continuous learning in their chosen field. This is to include those continuing on into engineering school, or graduate school, or intend to teach at the elementary or secondary school level.

Women and men trained in physics go on to careers in a huge number of diverse areas, including engineering, law, medicine, finance and business, high-tech industries, journalism, writing and publishing, and even cartooning!
Of course, you can also go on to teach at a high school, community college or university, or do research at a national lab, company, or university. Most university faculty combine teaching and research work.
