Professional Development
By vigorously supporting research and teaching, the university fosters the intellectual growth of its faculty. A variety of funding opportunities open avenues for scholarly development both in the United States and abroad. Recipients benefit from research and curriculum grants as well as financing for attending or presenting at professional conferences. Sabbaticals provide faculty with the time for intellectual pursuits beyond the classroom. Sweet Sabbaticals, a program unique to Washburn University, offers faculty members summer grants to travel outside Kansas. The University demonstrates its commitment to teaching through funding and recognition. Curriculum and Faculty Development grants reward instructors for improving themselves and their classroom practices. The Ned N. Fleming Excellence in Teaching Award celebrates the professor who achieves the most in the classroom.
