Perception/Action Differences
Dr. Mike Russell is currently investigating auditory space perception
(e.g.,distance perception, perception of sound source location,
auditory perception of 3-dimensional space) as well as the various
factors (e.g., recurrent auditory exposure, visual preview of
the experimental setting) influencing perceptual judgments. Unlike
the vast majority of investigators researching this area, Dr.
Russell considers auditory perception from a Gibsonian, ecological
perspective. More information on James J. Gibson's views can be
obtained from www.trincoll.edu/depts/ecopsyc/isep.html.
Mike received his education and Ph.D. from the Center for the
Ecological Study of Perception and Action, at the University of
