ARCHIVE

Alan Ayckbourn, Artistic Director of the Stephen Joseph Theatre, Scarborough, has worked in theatre all his life. His mentor, Stephen Joseph, first encouraged him to write. His work includes Relatively Speaking, Absurd Person Singular, The Norman Conquests, and children's play Invisible Friends. Mr. Ayekbourn also directs. He is particularly proud of the home for theatre he has established in Scarborough.

Comic Potential captured the imagination of critics and audiences alike from its premiere at Ayckbourn's Scarborough Theatre to productions in London and New York. The play received the Olivier Award in London for Best Comedy and in New York the Outer Critic's circle and Drama Desk Award for Best Play.

In 2000, Alan Ayckbourn was awarded the London Sunday Times' award for literary achievement.
