About the Playwright
Neil LaBute, born March 19, 1963, is an innovative and provocative American playwright, screenwriter and film director. raised in Spokane, Washington he studied theater at brigham Young University where he began producing plays. Graduate work followed at the University of Kansas, New York University and the Royal Academy of London. In 1993 he returned to KYU to premier his play In the Company of Men, for which he received an award from the Association of Mormon Letters. He adapted, financed and filmed the play which won the Filmaker's Trophy at the Sundance Film Festival and major awards and nominations at several national and internation festivals. LaBute's stage and film work have received critical praise for edgy and ofter unsettling portrayals of human relationships.
