2008 Syllabus for English Language & Composition - Olathe

July 28 - August 1, 2008

Institute Overview

During the summer institute we will explore the nature of the AP English Language program, what skills students will be developing in an AP course, and how the teacher can design a program that will facilitate the mastery of those skills. Each participant will be asked to create and share lessons on topics commonly taught in AP English Language classes.

Consultant Background

Steven Fox taught for thirty-two years at Shaker Heights High School. After many years in the AP English Literature program, he proposed adding AP English Language to the school's offerings. He developed that course and taught it for approximately ten years. He is a table leader at the exam reading, and a National Leader among the College Board consultants. He is the author of Advanced Composition Skills: Twenty Lessons for AP Success, recently published by Peoples Education.
