Declaring a Major

Declaring Your Major/Minor at Washburn

1. Declaring your major begins by communicating with a faculty, advisor, or representative from the appropriate department.  Locate contact information by browsing Washburn's Academic Programs.

This interaction is an opportunity to review requirements for the major and confirm you’ve made the right choice.  The Department will declare your major, and assign an advisor who will be your guide for course planning, mentoring and staying on track to graduation.

2. Changing your major begins by repeating step #1 above with a faculty, advisor, or representative in the new department.  Locate contact information by browsing Washburn's Academic Programs.

3. Declaring a minor, concentration, emphasis or certificate begins by repeating step #1 above with a faculty, advisor, or representative in the appropriate department.  Locate contact information by browsing Washburn's Academic Programs.

You may choose to include a minor as part of your bachelor's degree. In fact, some departments may require a minor. The number of credit hours in a certain area of concentration varies.  Additional information is available in the University Catalog or from Academic Departments.
