AO-K Case Manager

Washburn University Human Resources seeks candidates for an AO-K Case Manager position at Washburn Institute of Technology (Washburn Tech).  This position reports to the Associate Dean of Curriculum and Instruction.  This is a half-time grant-funded position to work an average of 20 hours per week through December 2013 with possible extension through December 2014.  The employee’s work schedule will vary according to student and program needs and may require work during some evenings and weekends.  Employment at Washburn University and Washburn Tech may be conditioned upon satisfactory completion of a background check.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Accelerating Opportunities Grant in Kansas (AO-K Grant) is a privately funded grant established for the purpose of improving the transition rate of Adult Basic Education (ABE) students into post-secondary education.

Student Recruitment and Assistance

Attend Adult Education Orientation sessions and work within the community to identify and recruit potential students to participate in the AO-K Grant Program.  

Assist prospective student-participants with completing and submitting AO-K and Washburn Tech application forms and supporting documentation as required by the grant or Washburn Tech.

Reporting and Tracking

Create spreadsheets and log grant participants, participant activity and other pertinent information as a basis for tracking and reporting activities. 

Produce enrollment rosters for each class to inform Career Technical Education (CTE) and ABE teachers of the students who will be in their classes.  Attend the first session of each course to verify that all students enrolled are in attendance and have all of the information they need.  Follow up with those students who are not present or who need information to encourage and facilitate their participation in the program.  Follow up with teachers on a weekly basis to verify that students continue to attend and participate in classes as required.

Case Management

Develop individualized learning plans for students who have been accepted into the AO-K program.  Consulting with teachers to obtain feedback on student performance and attendance, meet with each student on a regular basis to provide assistance and support for their educational endeavors and address concerns specific to their experience as they arise. 

Help students obtain materials such as a Washburn Identification badge and uniforms, and receive medical tests such as physicals, TB tests as they are needed according to their program of study. 

Miscellaneous duties and responsibilities

Attend meetings, training sessions, etc., to maintain understanding of current processes and issues as they affect Washburn Tech and the AO-K program, and to develop a community network that will serve in the development of partnerships and resources that will support AO-K programs.

Perform other duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

REQUIRED:   Associate's degree and 2 years of experience in education, case management or similar fields.  Proven excellence in personal interaction with individuals from various socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds.

PREFERRED: Bachelor's degree and experience in student services or case management as it relates to student advising.
