Human Resources seeks candidates for Assistant Director, Marketing Communications in the School of Law. This position reports to the Director of Marketing Communications.
Write, edit, fact-check and format copy for use on the website, in press releases, in e-mail correspondence, and in printed publications for the Washburn University School of Law (SOL) to ensure communications are accurate, clear, and consistent in tone and voice. Interview faculty, staff, students and alumni to obtain background information for such articles.
Develop, edit or assist SOL staff in the development, design, scheduling and distribution of pamphlets, brochures, invitations, newsletters, magazines, videos, and other communications for the Centers for Excellence, Law Clinic, Institute for Law Teaching and Learning, and other departments within the SOL, to ensure all communication materials are consistent with established style guide.
Update information and/or edit information on the SOL's website or blogs to ensure all posted and/or distributed information is current and consistent with the SOL standards.
Using established templates, format e-mail communications to identified groups such as prospective students, alumni and other audiences to provide up-to-date or developing information according to individual interest and involvement with the SOL.
Update internal databases, adding new information, eliminating duplication and assisting in producing mailing lists to maximize targeted distribution of Washburn Law mailings.
Update Facebook, Twitter, and other social networking sites to keep communication current, accurate and relevant for social media users.
Perform other duties as assigned to support the SOL’s mission and goals, including but not limited to serving as backup to the Director of Marketing Communications at times when that individual is unavailable.
REQUIRED: Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Mass Media or related field. 3 years of experience in public relations, publication design, marketing or writing and editing. Experience using Microsoft Office, database management, desktop publishing, and website maintenance systems. Ability to learn new technologies, to work both independently and with others, and to maintain confidentiality.
PREFERRED: 5 years of experience in public relations, publication design, marketing or writing and editing. Knowledge of Adobe InDesign or similar program. Competency in Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator.
