Assistant Director of Admissions

Human Resources seeks candidates for Assistant Director of Admissions in the Admissions office.  This position reports to the Director of Admissions.  Employment at Washburn may be conditioned upon satisfactory completion of a background check.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Oversee Admissions Student Record Processing Area:

Generate and review reports to determine support staff workloads, and prioritize and distribute work as necessary to maximize staff efficiency and ensure prompt processing of applications, transcripts, prospect information and application fees. 

Train new staff on the use of Banner or current staff on changes and updates to the Banner system to ensure consistent, accurate and timely completion of records processing in Admissions.

Review and evaluate student records that have been processed in Admissions to verify accuracy and identify training needs among staff.

Review Admissions processing procedures to ensure they are seamless and timely, and that appropriate actions are taken.  Identify, plan and implement changes in procedures to ensure continued and improved efficiency within the office. 

Monitor and assess employee performance to determine training needs and provide feedback/recommendation through performance reviews and employee recognition.  Initiate/recommend disciplinary action as needed.

Train and supervise student workers to help with the completion of Admissions processes. 

Disseminate Information:

Using networks and relationships established with and through prospective students, Community College advisors, previously enrolled students, and involving WU academic departments, other postsecondary institutions, employers and purchased mailing lists, market Washburn University to transfer and nontraditional students  through  mailings, phone calls, emails, texting, group presentations and one-on-one visits.

Recruitment:

Schedule campus visits, host events, attend college and education fairs to recruit prospective students.  Network with local employers, college campus advisors, organizations, e.g., KCCAP, to develop a Washburn presence and initiate personal contact with prospective students.

 

Transcript Evaluation

Review and evaluate transcripts from previous college coursework and advise prospective students regarding the admission process, academic program requirements, classes needed to fulfill degree requirements, transferability of classes from other institutions and other issues relative to each student's situation and interests.  Review student files, evaluating current enrollment status and entering admission decisions.  Award scholarships within budget, post transcripts as needed and authorized.  

Liaison: 

Serve as a liaison between WU academic departments, Community College counselors and faculty, and online students to facilitate communication between prospective students and the University.

Data Collection and Reports:

Assist in locating and compiling data for inclusion in reports of inquiries, campus visits, applications, admits, enrolled transfer students. 

Data Entry

Monitor data entry of prospective student information to ensure it is entered into the system in a timely manner to support continued contact and recruitment of prospective students. Train and supervise student workers to help with information processing.

Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Admissions.

QUALIFICATIONS

REQUIRED: Bachelor's degree.  Experience in marketing, recruiting or territory management; commitment to participate in professional organizations and activities related to admissions; ability to develop rapport and relationships with individuals from under-represented and diverse student populations, to speak to large groups while maintaining a positive energy, and travel; flexibility to work irregular hours.  Valid Kansas Driver's license.  

PREFERRED: Master's degree or current enrollment in a Master's program and experience in higher education admissions.   Supervisory experience.  Knowledge of SCT Banner system; ability to speak and understand Spanish.
