Associate Director of Admissions

Human Resources seeks candidates for an Associate Director of Admissions position in the Admissions Office.  This position reports to the Director of Admissions.  Employment at Washburn may be conditioned upon satisfactory completion of a background check.

RESPONSIBILITIES

In conjunction with and support of the Director of Admissions, this position holds responsibility for supervising and managing the day-to-day activities of the Admissions Office.  

Manage and Supervise Admissions Counselors:  Direct, guide and coach Admissions Counselors in the management of assigned recruitment territories, monitoring their recruitment activities and communicating frequently to ensure the full and efficient performance of each counselor.  Establish and communicate performance expectations, assess performance, identify training needs and provide feedback to facilitate performance improvement and professional development, and optimize recruiting/counselor efforts and success.

Screen applications, select and recommend hire and train new Admissions Counselors, providing introduction to Admissions as well as Washburn, advising them on territory management, using Banner, applicant file and scholarship review processes, office operations and procedures, Financial Aid and student advisement.

Data Collection and Reports:  Develop an understanding and knowledge of admissions data relative to inquiries, campus visits, applications, admits, enrollments by high school and by territory to use as a basis for planning, analysis and reporting. Analyze data from past activities and produce and publish weekly reports reflecting Return on Investment data for events, activities and travel by program and territory and other assessment measurements of admissions program effectiveness. Apply in-depth knowledge of past recruitment effectiveness to assist the Director of Admissions and Executive Director of Enrollment Management with the development of annual recruitment and strategic enrollment management plans.

Coordinate events:   Attend meetings and provide oversight of all facets of Admissions event planning (i.e., scheduling, budgeting and coordinating),  offering advice and direction to ensure events are well-planned, announced and executed.

Territory Management:  Visit high schools, community colleges and other community agencies within an assigned recruitment territory to meet and establish/cultivate relationships with students, parents, school staff, and other individuals and promote attendance at Washburn University.  Develop and deliver presentations and/or meet with students and parents to discuss opportunities at Washburn and answer questions they may have to give them the best understanding of the University possible.  Track student enrollment status, review their records and application data and maintain on-going contact with students to demonstrate individualized interest in their enrollment at Washburn and ensure their questions are answered and concerns addressed.  Work with other Admissions staff to plan and host special Admissions' events and campus visits to promote the University and encourage enrollment.

Handle residency issues:  Respond to inquiries regarding admission requirements and student residency, researching each situation and determining what changes are appropriate and needed, and initiating modifications as determined to ensure student compliance with University policy.

NCAA/Athletics:   Work with the Registrar's Office and faculty representatives to verify WU student athletes' NCAA eligibility, confirm admission status and file completion (documentation) as required by NCAA rules and University policy to support athlete’s eligibility and the University’s compliance with NCAA requirements. 

Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

REQUIRED: Master's degree.  Experience in marketing/recruiting or territory management; commitment to participate in professional organizations and activities related to admissions; ability to develop rapport and relationships with individuals from under-represented and diverse student populations, to speak to large groups while maintaining a positive energy, and travel; flexibility to work irregular hours.  Valid Kansas driver's license with acceptable driving record under University standards.  

PREFERRED: 2 years of experience in higher education admissions.  Supervisory experience.  Knowledge of SCT Banner AIS system; ability to speak and understand Spanish.
