Human Resources seeks candidates for a Career Services Specialist position in Career Services. This position reports to the Director of Career Services.
Review and critique cover letters, résumés, and social media profiles; provide guidance on researching employers and appropriate job search etiquette; provide coaching to build interview skills; assist in the evaluation of job offers; teach salary negotiation; and offer other coaching and support to assist students and alumni with job search issues while utilizing the online Career Services system (BodJobs), other software packages, and self-managed education credential files.
Interpret results from assessment instruments such as Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, Strong Interest Inventory, FOCUS2 and Self-Directed Search, and counsel students who are considering career options and deciding on majors.
Research and report on current best practices in the use of social media for career exploration, career advising and promotion of services and events to assist in determining Career Services’ approach to using social media in its services to students. Post information and advertising using social media such as Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter and Pinterest according to department plans and strategies.
As education and health care events team leader, design and review announcements and correspondence, review and modify invitation lists, contact and follow up with employers, and manage the daily logistics and planning of the semi-annual education recruitment events and the annual health care recruitment event to assist students and alumni with job search efforts.
As a Career Services team member, assist and support other Career Services staff with preparation and coordination of other Career Services activities, including but not limited to, the semi-annual career fairs and on-campus interviews. Prepare reports on individual and office activities and events, and recommend virtual and print resources for use by clients in support of counseling/advising, events, marketing, and other office activities and learning and career outcomes.
Network with University faculty and staff to build relationships that will enhance collaborative efforts to make Career Services events and activities meaningful and successful for WU students, alumni, and employers. Develop and maintain relationships with school districts, health care organizations, and other employers to enhance notification of and participation in Career Services events. Represent the University and WU Career Services at professional conferences and workshops.
Design, market, and deliver career- and job search-related workshops and presentations on and off campus to help students and other job seekers increase knowledge of self and the job search process. As assigned and scheduled, teach one section of Major and Career Exploration class (IS120).
Perform additional duties as assigned by the Director.
REQUIRED: Master’s degree in higher education, student personnel, counseling, or related field, or bachelor’s degree and 2 years of experience in career services, advising, or counseling.
PREFERRED: Experience in career counseling or advising in higher education. Experience as administrator of social media such as Facebook and LinkedIn. Teaching experience. Certification for either Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) or Strong Interest Inventory or both. Experience with desktop publishing software such as InDesign or Microsoft Publisher.
