Applications are being accepted for a Laborer position in Facilities Services. This position reports to the Chief, Grounds keeping Services. The selected applicant will be required to pass a criminal background check and a pre-employment drug test.
Work assignments for this position may include any or all of the following plus other duties as assigned. Employees are expected to use equipment to manufacturer and University standards and to comply with University and OSHA policies and regulations. New employees are required to complete safety training within 6 months of employment.
Move equipment, furniture and bleachers using proper lifting techniques and tools.
Remove trash from campus streets, parking lots, lawns and sidewalks.
Grade and backfill trenches and holes.
Snow removal duties as assigned.
Mow grass with small tractor, push or riding mower; trim edges with edgers, weed whips, etc.
Trim trees, prune and rake.
Paint sports fields.
Provide service support for campus events.
REQUIRED: High school diploma or GED. Stable/continuous work history. Experience in lawn maintenance. Ability to move and/or maneuver materials and equipment weighing as much as 80 pounds; operate motorized equipment, mechanical hand tools, and light to heavy duty construction and maintenance equipment; communicate effectively verbally and in writing; work from a ladder; perform manual labor and work outside in environmental conditions in all seasons. Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety; practices followed in the care, routine maintenance and safe operation of trucks, tractors, mowers and other light to heavy duty equipment. Valid Kansas driver’s license with acceptable driving record under University standards.
PREFERRED: Experience and/or training in construction equipment operation.
